Links to useful charities and soup kitchens in Greece
An overview of some of the websites and services available for people seeking help and support during the summer months of the Greece austerity crisis 2013. This page was put together by Guardian journalists with online users.
• Boroume is a network of more than 700 soup kitchens, municipal social services, welfare institutions, orphanages, schools (including those for children with special needs) and more across Greece.
• City of athens homeless shelter (KYADA) which serves 1,200 meals to the destitute every day
• Greek Orthodox church, the country's biggest charitable organisation
• For Greek speakers http://www.ekklesia.gr has list of churches with telephone numbers in Thessaloniki which hand out food
• Hellenic Ministries: a non-profit organisation, and the 2nd Evangelical Church of Athens do a fantastic job in feeding the poor. Suggestion by Michael Proussalidis
